2010 North Carolina Open

The 2010 North Carolina Open Checker Tournament
was held on May 14th & 15th 2010 in Siler City

at Days Inn, 1702 East 11th Street - (235 Chatham Square), Siler City, NC 27344  (919)-663-1818

Championship List, Life-Time Members, and LTM in memorial list, Rules of Play, Daily Schedule, and Payout Schedule. 


Carolina Open Rules of Play

  • 3-Move Ballot/156 Deck - (Swiss Style) Checker Tournament, 3 Divisions if enough players.

  • Entry fees: Masters $25, Majors $20, Minors $15

  • 8 rounds of 2 games per round - 1 hour per game, possible re-pairing only in the last round.

  • Referee will announce "time caveat" at each ending round, with only 15 minutes remaining.

  • Player may request Referee to arbitrate 1st game if approaching time limit, so 2nd game will starts on time.

  • If the game is not completed on time, then a move per minute for 10 minutes.

  • If the move per minute does not create a decision, then the referee will make a decision for the results.

  • If a player is 15 minutes late, the Referee will rule the game forfeited.

  • Get permission from opponent to adjust pieces, if you touch a checker you must play it, if its a legal move; otherwise, a warning from Referee, second offense you forfeit the game.

  • 4 points for a Forfeit, 3 points for a Bye, 2 points for a Win, 1 pt for a Draw

  • Play 4 rounds Friday of 2 hrs per round beginning at 10:00 AM

  • 1 round before the 1 hour lunch break at 12:00 AM

  • 3 rounds after lunch

  • Start at 8:00 AM for 4 rounds Saturday

  • 2 rounds before our 1 hour lunch break at 12:00 AM

  • 2 rounds after lunch

  • Youth tournament scheduled for Friday evening at 4:30 PM registration – Start at 5:00 PM

  • Prize payout according to schedule based on game points and finish position determined by game & honor points.

  • Masters may use clocks (30 moves per hour) & encouraged to record games.

  • Bring your own or use a provided clock & recorder sheet

  • Majors and Minors may do the same, but optional.

  • “Move-a-minute” rules will not be applied if clocks are used.

  • Referee and Scorekeeper will be Tim Laverty.


2010 Carolina Open Daily Schedule:

Friday: Register 8:00 - 8:45 AM   A short business meeting will follow registration.

Friday - Play begins 10:00 AM

Saturday - Play begins 8:00 AM



 

Youth Schedule:

Friday Evening: Register 4:30 PM
Play begins 5:00 PM  -  8:00 PM
(2 game GAYP rounds - Swiss or Round Robin) 
Round  1:  5-6 PM
Round  2:  6-7 PM
Round  3:  7-8 PM
Closing Ceremony:  8 - 8:30 PM - trophies & certificates

We collected 6 Master entry fees @ $25, totaling $125 with 2 LTM entrants, and 10 Majors @ $20 totaling $200 with 6 LTM entrants.
A total of $325 plus donations of $185 = $510.00 + $1,000 from the trust fund = Our $1,510.00 Total Cash Prize.
